The story starts on a different planet (I mean literally) called Krypton. The planet is collapsing, dying and the former hero of the planet sends his “first biologically born” kid to another safer planet (Earth).
I
won’t spoil the story further. No spoilers henceforth; keeping the review quite
short.
Cast: Henry Cavill, Amy Adams,
Michael Shannon, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Laurence Fishburne, Russell Crowe
Director: Zack Snyder
Music composed by: Hans Zimmer
Screenplay: David S. Goyer
Producers: Christopher Nolan,
Charles Roven, Deborah Snyder, Emma Thomas.
Producers like Christopher Nolan
and Roven do raise the expectations from this film and I feel that the movie
stands true to it to a certain extent though I wouldn’t say 100%.
Zack Snyder manages to put his
signature style of making gym toned men into an action packed combat. The movie
feels as if you are watching two sets of the same show which are trying to get
connected.
The first half is about the
journey of Superman to earth, the difficulties he faced, the self-control
enforced on him and so on and so forth. It time swings between his childhood in
cuts and pieces. So don’t be confused if suddenly you find superman on screen
turn into superbaby.
The next half is action packed.
This is where the film gains pace and excitement. General Zod, the villain is
shown equally powerful and gives a good fight to our Superman. So this movie isn’t
one-sided although it’s about super heroes. I am happy about that.
The movie is visually a treat in
some of the scenes. The story is built a bit differently but I liked it. Some
of you may find it slow in the first half but it’s quite engaging. And a cherry
on top for the gals especially is of course Henry Cavill. An upgrade is the
suit of Superman; finally they have got rid of that ridiculous Red underwear.
So you can definitely watch this
movie. Its dramatic and ruminative at times. It did not disappoint me.
Rating: 4/5
Happy watching!!
Ciao.
